Expanded durational performance, 2024
“urational performance that ran for three weeks at Lilith Performance Studio in Malmö in
November-December 2024. Performance usually departs from the artist's body and presence, but  in this instance they were greeted by a receptionist who said "The artist isn’t here, because she’s not sure she believes in art anymore, but she would like you to fill out this survey."

The survey was opened with the following text:

Has art accepted its own demise?
Our collectively funded culture is being dismantled, a party sprung from Nazism controls Swedish politics,
far-right winds blow across Europe, the world watches as children are bombed to death and the climate disaster threatens the very basis of human life. And yet we continue to make art and not revolt. What is it we’re actually doing? Is it nihilism or human nature to continue to decorate not only the tree we sit in but the very saw that is cutting it down?
My name is Roxy Farhat and this work is about trying to find my way back to, or deciding to give up, the meaning of art making in a time where everything is at stake and where it has never been easier to distract yourself.
I have always believed in art and its radical potential to change society, but today I wonder if we aren’t just fooling ourselves. Since autumn of 2022, I have been involved in the climate movement Restore Wetlands. Since then I have, with my body, disrupted in the parliament’s plenary hall, disrupted an athletics competition at the Stadium in Stockholm, dammed up trenches to save a drained wetland and sat on a highway, all to try to stop society's progress towards climate collapse.
My involvement in a peaceful resistance movement has made me see art with new eyes. Can, and does, art really change society or is its task merely to make the decay of contemporary life bearable? I’m not sure anymore, and I doubt whether to continue making art.
Please help me find a path forward by answering this survey. It consists of 5 questions, and you are welcome to answer as detailed and personally as possible. I am very curious about your perspective. Your answers will be collected and used as a foundation to help me decide how to proceed as an artist. Is it time to leave art behind or can it become something stronger than it is today?
On December 7 at 19:30, there will be an open conversation concluding the survey, where I will decide how to move forward. Everyone who fills out the survey gets free entry on the 7th. Hope to see you then and I look forward to reading your answers.

The work ran for three weeks (Thursday-Saturday) and in total, over 300 people completed the surveys. The work was concluded on December 7th, 2024 with a conversation in the installation based on the responses.
